“Hito Steyerl: This Is the Future”

“In her installations, films, lectures, and writings, the Berlin-based artist Hito Steyerl examines how global communication networks consolidate economic, political, and societal systems of control.”

Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, through February 23, 2020

In her installations, films, lectures, and writings, the Berlin-based artist Hito Steyerl examines how global communication networks consolidate economic, political, and societal systems of control. This survey exhibition presents eleven major works made over the past fifteen years, including Steyerl’s newest production, Free Plot (2019), a group of planters shaped like tax havens (Geneva, Panama, and Singapore) and populated, in this iteration of the piece, with native Ontario plant species.
