The Kitchen Onscreen: 50th Anniversary Initiatives
August 18 - December 31
Taking the 50th anniversary of The Kitchen’s founding as a motivating milestone, we have launched a series of research projects focused on our organization’s history. These initiatives revisit and reanimate the materials held in The Kitchen’s archive and supplement these records with new oral histories and conversations among artists, curators, and other practitioners who have worked with the organization across the decades.
The archive of The Kitchen’s activities from 1971–1999 is in the collection of the Getty Research Institute. A digital selection of materials from 1971–present is accessible through The Kitchen’s Archive Website. Additional materials about The Kitchen’s early years are accessible on a website established by the founders of The Kitchen, Steina and Woody Vasulka.
