Joseph Nease Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located in downtown Duluth, MN. Similar in scope to its progenitor in Kansas City, MO; the gallery features exhibitions of painting, ceramics, photography, sculpture, installation, and new media by artists both regional, national and international.

The gallery is unique to upper midwest in both appearance and scope. Through solo and group exhibitions, we showcase the work of and represent mid- and advanced- career artists and select emerging artists. As an arts destination, Joseph Nease Gallery also provides educational and social opportunities to art lovers and collectors, and those visiting beautiful Lake Superior and the northland.

We appreciate the support and confidence of our collectors and that of the Tweed Museum of Art who has added multiple works by gallery artists to its collection.  Gallery artists are included in the collections of numerous significant institutions, and have also been the recipients of several prestigious awards, grants and residencies.  Opened in 2017, we have featured “Three States” – a new media exhibit with Matthew Kluber, Kathy McTavish and James Woodfill; “Sweep” – a survey of contemporary painting, an original film by Allen Killian-Moore, James Brinsfield – a 20 year retrospective, Finnish artist Sirpa Sarkajarvi – Transcriptions, a solo show of all new work, Matthew Kluber – paintings with digital projections, James Woodfill – “Code Practice”, objects that could not be physically displayed due to Covid, and online animations with sound the artist created as a response, and many others.  Our current exhibition A Warm Reset, is an extended group exhibition of gallery and invited artists as we start to recover from the pandemic: josephneasegallery.com/exhibitions/
