Robert Watts Studio Archive, Robert Watts Estate

Management of works and documentation relating to the American artist Robert Marshall Watts (1923-1988).

Robert Watts participated in major art movements of his time, during a career spanning the late 1950s to his death in 1988— from Neo-Dada, Pop Art, to Conceptual and Intermedia. He was an influential founder in the Fluxus movement, a collaborator with highly esteemed artists and composers, and a virtuoso of nontraditional materials.

Watts’s extensive oeuvre includes innovations in sculpture, events, photography, environments, film, interactive sound and media works, installations and performance. Using found objects, metals, plastics, castings and a sly wit, Watts personified a legacy of Marcel Duchamp’s perspective on art.

His works are present in numerous institutions and collections including MoMA, Whitney Museum of American Art, Smithsonian American Museum of Art, Walker Art Center, Centre Georges Pompidou, Moderna Museét, Tate, Chicago Art Institute, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many more.

Works, documentation, historical information and photographic content are managed by his Estate.
