The Brant Foundation Art Study Center

Contemporary art and design for study and loan. Long-term exhibitions. Greenwich, CT and New York, NY

Founded by Peter M. Brant in 1996, The Brant Foundation has a mission to promote education and appreciation of contemporary art and design by making works available to the public for scholarly study and examination.

The Brant Foundation has two locations: Greenwich, CT and New York, NY.  In 2009, the Greenwich space opened its doors presenting bi-annual exhibitions curated primarily from the Brant Collections.  In 2019, the Foundation opened its second space in New York City’s East Village with a major solo exhibition of works by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Located in the Lower East Side Historic District, the space occupies a century-old building, originally designed in 1920 by William H. Whitehill as a substation for Consolidated Edison.  The building subsequently served as the home and studio of famed artist Walter De Maria from the mid-1980s until his death in 2013.
