DEBORAH ZLOTSKY: DNA PAINTINGS

September 8 - October 13

DEBORAH ZLOTSKY: DNA PAINTINGS

AN ONLINE SOLO EXHIBITION

Deborah Zlotsky’s vivid abstract paintings reference 1960s psychedelia and the graphic boldness of Pop painting.  Her newest paintings feature vibrant, pared-down geometric compositions that are both timeless and contemporary, brought to life by her signature use of color, shape, and perspectival shifts.   Zlotsky’s artistic process comes out of an interest in the idea of chance as a method of creating new relationships through responses to unexpected decisions:

“On a broader level, I’m fascinated by the way history evolves through the accumulation of actions and reactions—in the way complexities are built over time through the accidents that get baked in. In these new paintings, I limited my focus to include only two connecting shapes. I was thinking about my elderly parents in particular and the coincidences of one’s DNA. The unique configuration of scale, shape, color, and space in each painting refers to both the unlikelihood and the generative intricacy in even the simplest of unions.”

Deborah Zlotsky received a 2019 Guggenheim Fellowship and NYFA Artist Fellowships in Painting in 2012 and 2018.  She is represented by Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York and Robischon Gallery in Denver.  Zlotsky’s work is in a variety of public, private and corporate collections in the US and abroad and she has been awarded residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, and Bogliasco Foundation, among others.  Zlotsky has a BA in the History of Art from Yale University and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Connecticut. She teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design.
