Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art

One-person and group exhibitions of contemporary work; permanent collection of featured artists.

About UIMA:

For over 45 years, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art has hosted and promoted Chicago’s emerging and established contemporary artistic voices. Established at the height of the Cold War when Soviet rule in Ukraine offered few artists freedoms, UIMA’s founders were the first immigrant population in Chicago to create an ethnic museum space fully dedicated to contemporary art.

As in its early days, UIMA offers a robust schedule of exhibitions, musical and literary events, films, and gallery talks, including the annually anticipated Live and Silent Auction. UIMA’s programs and events connect an international network of artists, musicians, and writers with West Town’s diverse local community, offering intellectually and artistically rich experiences that enhance and expand Chicago’s cultural life.
